Wario Land Shake It

Haven't had a chance to post anything on here over the weekend, I do have a life. Anyway been looking at Wario Land Shake It, not so much the game but the promotional side of it. Firstly I came across the awesome looking site which is beautifully illustrated and animated, but also Nintendo have come up with a great Youtube video for it that's pretty much groundbreaking if I do say so myself. The game I have heard from a colleague is a bit shit unless you're about 10 years old or something. Anyway check out the links below.

ここ2週間ほどCSのファミリー劇場でキャプテン翼の集中放映があった。ほとんどが夜遅くから明け方までという地獄のようなスケジュールで、観れても夜中2時ぐらいまでと結果的にほとんど観れなかったんだけど（翌朝タップなので）、今日の放映は夜8時までだったので久々に思い出に浸った。

キャプテン翼といえば僕らの世代の代表的なマンガ/アニメで、個人的にはキン肉マンと共に好きなマンガだった。もちろんオリジナルの放映当時もしっかり観てたんだけど、それ以降今まで目に触れる機会がなかったんだよね。時々外国チームとやってるアニメがテレビでやってるのとか目にしたことがあったけど、オリジナルはほとんど皆無。おかげでストーリーラインも結構忘れてしまってた。

で、久々に目にしたオリジナル。あまりの出来の良さに愕然とした :)

とりあえず観たのは小学生編だけど、初めの南葛SC結成におけるエピソードから全国大会での激闘の決勝戦まで、一気に駆け抜けてる。その中で色々なキャラクターが登場し、それらがすごくいいハーモニーを醸し出し、最後まで一気に魅せてくれる。個人的には、期待してた三杉君の武蔵SCと南葛SCの準決勝が時間帯の関係で観れなくて残念なんだけど（年少の頃から心臓病持ちの三杉君はかなり印象に残ってた）、それでも今日一気に決勝戦の後半＆延長戦を観れて感動した。それにしても、昼ぐらいから夜8時ぐらいまでテレビにかじりついてたのに、それでいて試合時間にすれば40分ぐらいと、時間感覚がメチャクチャおかしいんだけど、それでも一気に魅せる力に圧倒された。日本代表クラスの選手だけじゃなく世界の有名プレーヤー達もこのアニメに影響されてサッカーを始めたということを聞くし、やっぱりスゴいアニメだね。

こう観てると、DVDレコーダーがあれば、って思っちゃう。個人的に「その時間にいれば観る、いなきゃ観ない」主義で、DVDレコーダーは今手元にないんだけど（実家に置きっぱなし）、最近スカパーに入り直した関係でやっぱりゲットしたほうがいいのかな、って考え始めてる。もしキャプテン翼の小学生編が再放送されるんだったらすぐ考えるけど、スケジュールを見ると今週金曜に小学生編の決勝戦に絞った部分のみが放映されるんだよね :( もし撮って残すんだったら最初からのほうがいいし、来月とかにまた一からやらないかな〜？

Case Study

Wow, its been quiet a while since I last posted anything on this site, I guess I'll have to try and be a bit more active on here.

As part of my teacher training that I am doing at the college, I am going to have to write 2 case studies on areas that cover teaching etc.

So with what I am teaching, most of the modules require you to tell the students about new and up coming software developments, so with that in mind, I am hoping to write a case study covering this piece of software.

I am only going to be working on 2 case studies and hopefully explore this idea more. Check back in about 8 weeks for the completed case study.

after 2 weeks in taipei, taiwan, I am back in manila. thank you everybody at SOFA animation studios for two well spent weeks. the lectures gave me a lot of new ideas, I met very talented artists and enjoyed the time with all of you...
back to disney's BAMBI. today I have recreated three backgrounds from the same sequence. the layout- and BG-artists had to match all the details in these backgrounds, they are all pretty close to each other. again, look at how well organized details and soft painted areas are. you get the feeling that something is missing, - the actors. it feels like a theatre stage.

So, for our English class we have to create a blog, and then subsequently sum up our life in ten or so digital photographs.

Indeed, even though my appearance is deceivingly that of asian lineage, I am basically white. Or, as white as an azn can get. Anyways, that suppressed part of me that occasionally screams out "Chopsticks!" and "Japanese animation!" has manifested itself into the form of this felt wallet I found in Toronto. It's a pretty amazing piece of artwork. And it's part one out of the ten photographers I will be shifting through in this wonderful blog.

"Snack and Drink" -- A short documentary

I originally saw this short video as a special feature on the "Waking Life" DVD from 2001. Although it's just a group of people walking to a 7-11 to get some snacks (and drinks), the artistic aspect of it is mind-blowing. It's just a couple minutes long and definitely worth a view.

From the YouTube video info:

"Snack and Drink" is an animated documentary short by Bob Sabiston and Tommy Pallotta, starring Ryan Power. This autistic teenager in Austin, Texas walks to a local 7-11 to get a snack and drink. It is rotoscoped with a wild variety of animation styles by different animators.

Στο in.gr βρήκα την ιστοσελίδα του συγκεκριμένου δημιουργού, Aardman. Πολλά από τα cartoon του σίγουρα θα έχουν πέσει στην αντίληψή σας. Η πλαστελίνη παίρνει ζωή στα χέρια του και πολλές φορές μας έχει χαρίσει καταπληκτικά κινούμενα σχέδια.

Πέρα από αυτά υπάρχει μια σειρά που λέγεται creature comforts. Είχα παρακαλουθήσει πριν από πολλά χρόνια μια σειρά διαφημίσεων στην βρεττανική τηλεόραση για κάποια εταιρεία όπου τα ζωάκια παρουσάζαν τις μεγάλες αλλαγές στην καθημερινή ζωή μέσα από τη χρήση των οικιακών συσκευών.

Στο βιντεάκι όμως αυτό μιλούν για τη ζωή στο ζωολογική κήπο. Για το κλίμα, τη διατροφή, τις συνθήκες διαβίωσης. Το αιλουροειδές από την Βραζιλία είναι όλα τα λεφτά...

Mark Borgions' book fair work

Hi reader(s),

I had staked out this name on Wordpress for a while, unsure of its purpose. For now, I will simply share the interesting things I find in my Google Reader.

First honor goes to this crazy (fun) poster by Mark Borgions:

[I want this on my wall. I'm not fond of event posters
with dates stamped on them but a good poster
will make me forget that tiny detail.]

Borgions is a Belgish designer who specializes in... everything! His website, www.handmademonsters.com, features his work in animation, graphic design and illustration. I love the layout of his work. Simply little squares arranged orderly yet quirkly within a clean structure (pic when I get a better wireless signal).

We ve started a new project with my flatmates/studio owners/codirectors/family. The idea came from our producer neighbour. This is a weekly screen art extra, sunday evenings, animation films. There s suprisingly a big interest for animated films amongst the other film department students, so we also tought to launch a little blog, after every session we put the names and films on it. You cant miss it! Drinks, nice atmosphere, talks, discussions, inspirations.
the list of the films seems very random, but we try to keep a certain tension, and it works actually.

Jörg Haider ist vor seinem tödlichen Autounfall viel zu schnell gefahren.

Der 58 jährige sei zum Zeitpunkt des Unfalls mit 142 km/h doppelt so schnell unterwegs gewesen wie auf der Strecke erlaubt, so das Untersuchungsergebnis der Sachverständigen.

Die technische Überprüfung des Unfallautos ergab, dass der VW Phaeton völlig in Ordnung war. Haider war angeschnallt, Überlebenschance hatte er trotzdem keine. Seine Verletzungen seien so schwer gewesen, dass ihn niemand hätte retten können, ergab die Obduktion.

JEREMY GREGORY
With chalkboard paint, colored pencils, and colors that really pop off their black backgrounds, Jeremy Gregory's works are always guaranteed to appeal to a wide array of individuals. The last time I came across one of his shows at Snowboard Connection, he did something few artists do, but more should: he shared his deepest animated secrets, in the form of about five sketchbooks completely scrawled with his thoughts, cartoons, and quick sketches. And this is what keeps Gregory's work interesting. Whether he's traversing through books about circus sideshows or sharing his sketchbooks, he's always doing something subtle that sets him apart from the others.

For the Observations & Perceptions show at the Fulcrum Gallery in Tacoma this month, Gregory's approach shall be no different. Here's what he had to say about his display for :

"My part of the show will include an installation made to look like a workshop... there will be small illustrations representing the song "What's He Building in There?" by Tom Waits. Also, I'm doing portraits of sex offenders that are located within 1 mile of the gallery."

Sounds like a jolly good, mind-bending time.

At this show, you can also expect some abstract paintings by Elise Richman, whose works which recall alien landscapes not unlike a wickedly colorful bacterial colony.
